Bunnings Truck Loading Dock Stabilisation

Case Study
Location: Bunnings, Windsor Gardens SA
Project Type: Stabilisation
Project Team: Urathane Solutions, South Australia

Project Overview

This project involved a 47m² driveway slab servicing a high-traffic truck loading dock. The slab had settled due to unengineered fill and inadequate compaction, compounded by constant heavy vehicle loading.

Temporary steel ramping had been installed to maintain usability; however, a long-term solution was required to restore structural performance and eliminate ongoing deterioration.

Key Challenges

  • Poorly compacted and unengineered fill material

  • Continuous heavy truck loading accelerating settlement

  • Critical operational area with minimal downtime allowed

  • Location above an active car park requiring controlled injection

  • Need for immediate usability post-works

Temporary steel ramping had been installed to maintain usability prior to Urathane’s works.

Scope of Works

Urathane Solutions delivered a targeted stabilisation program, including:

  • Resin injection across 47m² slab area

  • 95 injection points installed at ~1m depth

  • Ground densification and void filling beneath slab

  • Controlled slab lift to restore levels

  • Injection carried out under load conditions

Engineered layout incorporating 95 injection points at approximately 1m depth to achieve full ground improvement and slab support.

Execution & Delivery

To achieve optimal results, the loading dock was actively loaded with trucks and equipment during injection. This allowed greater penetration and compaction of the resin without immediate hydraulic lift, improving ground consolidation outcomes.

All works were completed within a single day (Saturday), ensuring:

  • No disruption to weekday operations

  • Immediate return to service

  • Minimal impact on deliveries and site logistics

Outcome

  • Slab stabilised and re-levelled

  • Ground conditions improved through densification

  • Temporary ramping no longer required

  • Area returned to full operational use immediately

  • Delivered within strict time constraints with zero disruption

The works enabled Bunnings to return the loading dock to full operations with just one day downtime, all while preventing much more expensive structural reworks.
